How to Spot Low-Hanging Fruit in Google Search Console
If you’ve been using Google Search Console (GSC) for a little while, you’re probably familiar with the basics: clicks, impressions, average position, and CTR. But what if we told you there’s a goldmine of quick wins buried in that data?
Pages that are almost ranking.
Search terms you’re almost showing up for.
Content that just needs a small tweak to bring in real results.
What’s “Low-Hanging Fruit” in SEO?
Low-hanging fruit = opportunities that take less effort but deliver quick wins.
In GSC, that usually means:
Pages ranking between positions 8–20
Queries with lots of impressions but low CTR
High-value content that’s underperforming
These pages are already visible-ish. Your job is to nudge them into the spotlight.
How to Find These Opportunities
In the performance report, set your date range to last 3 months for enough data.
Click through to the pages tab, and sort by impressions to find the most viewed pages.
Click on a particular page, and then click queries. This shows all the keywords that page is ranking for.
Look for:
Positions between 8–20 (page 2 of search results)
High impressions, low clicks (means you’re seen but not chosen)
CTR under 1% (room to improve your title and meta description)
Use the Compare tool in Search Console (top right) to see how performance has changed month over month.
What to Do Next
Found a few underperforming pages? Great. Here's how to turn them around:
⇥ Improve the page title and meta description
Make them clearer, more specific, and more appealing. Speak directly to what the searcher needs.
⇥ Add a strong H1 heading and intro paragraph
Tell Google (and your reader) exactly what the page is about, right away.
⇥ Expand or improve your content
If the page is thin, vague, or outdated, add more value. Include FAQs, internal links, or a clearer call-to-action.
⇥ Submit the updated page for indexing
In GSC, paste the URL into the top bar and click "Request Indexing". This helps Google re-crawl your improvements faster.
